Plaster doesn't last forever, and in central Arkansas it tends to show its age faster than in milder climates. Hot summers push pool chemistry harder, and the freeze-thaw cycle each winter works on decking joints and coping until they crack or heave. Pool Pros renovates pools built by us and by other contractors alike, and most of the renovation calls we get fall into a handful of categories: surfaces that have gone rough or stained, decks that have cracked or settled unevenly, dated tile and coping that need replacing, aging pumps and heaters that cost more to run every year, and older pools that no longer meet current fence and barrier codes.
We start every renovation with a free on-site assessment where we look at the shell, decking, equipment pad, and surrounding barrier, and tell you plainly what needs attention now versus what can wait. From there we scope the work, whether that's a straightforward resurface or a full remodel that touches decking, tile, equipment, and safety fencing in one coordinated project. Our crews handle each trade in-house, so a renovation that spans plaster, decking, and equipment doesn't turn into three separate contractors and three separate schedules.
Below are our two most-requested renovation services with dedicated pages, along with three more ways we bring an aging pool back to a like-new condition.
Our Most-Requested Renovations
Pool Resurfacing
Strip and replace worn, stained, or rough plaster with a smooth, durable new finish.
Learn MorePool Deck Resurfacing & Pavers
Replace cracked, heaved concrete decking with resurfaced concrete or new paver systems.
Learn MoreTile & Coping Replacement
Waterline tile and pool coping take direct sun, pool chemicals, and freeze-thaw movement every year, and eventually tiles crack, pop off, or fade, while coping stones shift or crumble at the edges. We remove damaged tile and coping down to sound substrate, then reset new tile and coping matched to your desired style, from classic glass and porcelain waterline tile to natural stone or poured concrete coping profiles. Because coping sits at the structural edge of the pool, we also check for any grouting or bond beam issues underneath before resetting, so the new material doesn't fail again from the same underlying cause. This is commonly paired with deck resurfacing since both projects disturb the same pool edge.
Equipment Upgrades
Pumps, filters, and heaters more than 10 to 15 years old are usually costing you real money in electricity and gas versus a modern variable-speed pump or high-efficiency heater. As part of a renovation we evaluate your existing equipment pad and recommend upgrades that fit your pool's size and usage, from variable-speed pumps that cut pump energy use substantially, to cartridge or DE filter upgrades, to salt system conversions. We handle the plumbing and electrical changes needed to swap equipment cleanly, and we make sure everything is set up to current code, since older equipment pads are frequently missing modern bonding and GFCI requirements.
Pool Fence & Safety Barrier Installation
Every city in the Little Rock metro requires an approved safety barrier around a residential pool, and codes have gotten stricter over the past two decades, meaning older pools are sometimes out of compliance with current requirements around fence height, gate self-closing hardware, and gap spacing. We install new pool fencing and safety barriers, and retrofit existing fencing to bring it up to current code, whether that means adjusting gate hardware, adding self-latching mechanisms, or replacing a fence entirely. This matters most if you're selling a home with a pool, since many buyers' inspections flag non-compliant barriers, and it matters for basic safety if you have young children or pets around the pool.

Renovation & Remodeling Questions
If your plaster is rough, stained, or losing chips, or if your deck has heaved or cracked from years of freeze-thaw cycles, resurfacing usually solves it. If you're also dealing with old, inefficient equipment, dated tile, or a pool that no longer meets current safety barrier codes, a fuller remodel makes more sense. We diagnose this for free at your on-site assessment.
Resurfacing alone typically takes 1 to 2 weeks including drain, prep, and cure time. A fuller renovation involving decking, tile, and equipment can run 3 to 6 weeks depending on scope and weather.
Yes, most renovations keep the existing shell and shape and update the surface, decking, tile, and equipment around it. We only recommend reshaping or expanding a pool if there's a structural issue or you specifically want a different footprint.
