We excavate to the exact shell dimensions, set a compacted stone or sand base, crane the shell into place, and backfill around it while the pool is filling to balance the pressure on the walls. Fiberglass's smooth gel-coat surface resists algae better than plaster and never needs acid washing or replastering, which lowers long-term maintenance cost. It's one of the most requested add-ons on new gunite builds because it gives young kids a safe shallow area and gives adults a spot to relax without needing pool floats. We form the ledge into the shell during construction, so it's structurally part of the pool rather than an add-on, and we can plumb in bubblers or umbrella sleeves directly into the shelf. If you're building a new pool and want a sun shelf, mention it during your on-site assessment so we can factor it into the shape and depth plan from day one.
